Overview

At Dominion Energy, we are dedicated to finding the best solution for the long-term energy needs within the communities we serve. As we remain focused on reliability and resiliency, we have identified a transmission line crossing Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties for upgrades. This project will enhance wind resistance during severe weather and provide more reliable and resilient power to the Chapin region.
Dominion Energy and its contractors will replace 15 miles of 115-kilovolt (kV) steel lattice tower structures with self-supporting galvanized steel poles. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability to our customers. The rebuilt lines will be constructed along existing right of way between the Ballentine and Little Mountain communities.
Letters will be sent out to impacted property owners along the route as Dominion Energy progresses through construction.
Benefits
- Maintains current right of way.
- Increases line clearance versus existing structures, reducing outage risks.
- Replaces aging infrastructure.
- Complies with mandatory standards to ensure safety, reliability and to meet future needs.
- Increases reliability in the Chapin area.
Timeline
Engineering design and environmental permitting began in fall 2024. Transmission line construction will begin in early 2026 and continue until the end of 2026. In addition to weekdays and normal work hours, weekend work hours may be necessary to meet critical project schedules.
