How can we help you?
Liberty-Cannon Branch
230 kV Upgrade
Overview

The Liberty-Cannon Branch 230 kV Upgrade Project is necessary to maintain safe and reliable electric service for our customers and comply with mandatory standards for the electric transmission system. This project involves uprating existing 115 kilovolt (kV) lines between Liberty and Cannon Branch substations to 230 kV and removing existing 115 kV lines between the City of Manassas’ Dominion and Lomar Delivery Point substations.
For the line upgrades, most of the existing transmission structures and wires, or conductor, can accommodate the voltage increase and will not be changed or replaced. Construction needs for this portion of the project are limited to upgrading and reconfiguring equipment in and around the substations along the project route. For the line removals, we will remove the conductors and 14 structures within approximately 1,800 feet of right of way and restore the impacted areas to their preexisting conditions.
Benefits
- Maintains current right of way
- New structures located in the same general location as existing structures
- Complies with mandatory standards to ensure safety, reliability and to meet future needs
- Minimizes impact to the community and environment
The project was originally announced in late 2020, postponed in late 2021 to evaluate regulatory requirements, then restarted in 2022.
