How can we help you?
Columbia Canal Rebuild
Overview

To further enhance the reliability and resiliency of our system, we have identified a transmission line near the Gervais Street Bridge for replacement. The project will be completed in collaboration with the city of Columbia’s ongoing repairs along the Columbia Canal.
Dominion Energy and its contractors will replace existing 115-kilovolt (kV) steel lattice tower structures along the one-mile section of line with self-supporting galvanized steel poles. The new line will be designed to meet all modern electric codes as well as provide additional reliability to our customers. The lines will be rebuilt on existing rights of way.
Benefits
- Maintains current right of way
- New structures located in the same general location as existing structures
- Complies with mandatory standards to ensure safety, reliability and to meet future needs
- Increases reliability to the Columbia area
- Replaces temporary infrastructure
Timeline
- Work on the canal’s earthworks begins in mid-2025. Transmission line construction will begin by fall 2025 and continue until January 2026. In addition to weekdays and normal work hours, weekend work hours may be necessary to meet critical project schedules.
