The Chickahominy – Bermuda Hundred – Darbytown project proposes to rebuild 34 miles of transmission line in Charles City, Chesterfield and Henrico Counties. These upgrades will support continued reliability, improve grid efficiency and meet Central Virginia's growing energy demands.
Project Details
The Bermuda Hundred – Chickahominy Project proposes to rebuild 34 miles of transmission line across Charles City, Chesterfield and Henrico Counties. These transmission line upgrades will:
- Meet central Virginia's growing electric demand.
- Support continued reliability and improve grid efficiency.
- Comply with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
Bermuda Hundred – Chickahominy
- Rebuild transmission lines between the proposed Bermuda Hundred substation and existing Chickahominy substation – 13.5 miles.
Chickahominy – Elko
- Rebuild the existing transmission lines Chickahominy and Elko substations – 7 miles.
Elko – Turner – Darbytown
- Rebuild the existing transmission lines between the Elko and Darbytown substations – 13.6 miles.
- Upgrade existing infrastructure at both Darbydown and Turner substations.

The Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) has regulatory authority over all energy providers in Virginia. Among other responsibilities, the SCC validates the need for a proposed line and approves the route and structures. In reviewing a proposed project, the SCC must consider whether potential impacts on scenic assets, historic districts and the environment have been reasonably minimized.
Once this project is submitted to the SCC, we will post our application and provide a link to the SCC’s case docket where you will find documents related to the case, as well as information on how to submit comments.
